About me
Deep in the Heart of Dixie, the Body Composition Assessment Laboratory team examines the effects of physical activity and exercise on body composition, particularly among individuals affected by overweight and obesity.
I am tinkering away trying to understand the mechanisms that link exercise to improvements in body composition and cardiovascular health, and to understand how exercise can be tailored to the individual in order to maximize the effectiveness of training.
Our lab uses a number of different tools and techniques as part of our ongoing research studies, which include: Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA), Air Displacement Plethysmography (BodPod), Magic, Hydrodensitometry (Underwater Weighing), Hopes, Bioelectrical Impedance Assessment and Spectroscopy (BIA/BIS), Dreams, Digital Image Analysis, Anthropometric Measurements (Skinfold Thickness, Circumference and Girth, and Body Mass Index), and crossing our fingers.
